Your Complete Knitting Community

Welcome to our little corner of the online knitting world! TheKnitteur.com is co-owned by a fantastic husband and wife team, Jenny and Joe. For many months, we enjoyed spending our quiet evenings together, Jenny with her knitting and Joe with a book. Then Jenny started designing her own "knitted stuff" and Joe couldn't help his entrepreneur side from bursting forth. After months of brainstorming, designing, and html coding, TheKnitteur was born.

Not everyone is so lucky to have a fabulous-knitting-guru to learn from in person. With that in mind, our video and technique pages are intended to allow beginning knitters to teach themselves how to knit. That's how Jenny learned! The internet is a magical place. You can master basic techniques then move on to the intermediate and advanced stitches - with this knowledge the world of knit items is literally at your fingertips! (pun intended, sorry)

This site is a place for learning as well as teaching, and also a place to publish your own designs - See the Forum for more information on submitting patterns and prizes! We know that knitters come in all shapes and sizes, so patterns for every garment (eg. sweater) are provided in sizes XS to 4X. And every pattern on this site is free! The pattern page is meant to be an ever-expanding source for original designs submitted by users and provided by Jenny.

Finally there is the Yarn Shop, which offers high quality yarn and knitting accessories at affordable prices. It isn't open yet, but we hope to get it moving within the next year.

Thanks for joining us!

Our Name

Knit-teur (nit-toor) n.: One who knits.

When we were coming up with our name, we decided that we wanted something simple, descriptive, and unique. The French suffix 'eur' is analogous to the English 'er' or 'or', and means someone who does. So a Knitteur is someone who does knitting. Many English words use this French suffix, and we felt that it lends them a bit of class. So when one of us mentioned the new word, it just stuck.

It's not a real word, yet.

I learned how to knit from my grandma when I was a kid, then promptly dropped it when my first scarf was still washcloth-sized and full of holes. About 10 years later, my roommate took up knitting and I got interested again, then my grandma gave us bags and bags of her old yarn stash and about 3 of every size of needle! Sweet!

I still knit scarves, and a lot of them are completely hole free! I like to share what I learn with others, so the How to Knit section is a treat for you and me. Stop by the community message board and show us your latest projects (Pics please! We love pics), ask questions, or answer mine! I love to learn new tricks.

Well, I'm flattered that you want to know more about us. (;

Our goal is to be a great knitting resource. I'm sort of the technical arm of 'Jenny and Joe', so if you find anything lacking, please let us know so I can fix it.

I hope you have an opportunity to explore and enjoy our entire site.

Happy knitting.
